The Austrian rally driver Andreas Aigner, of the Stohl Racing team managed superb results in the European Rally Championship Croatian race at the weekend.

Aigner who is this year racing on a Subaru Impreza R4 STI and with YOKOHAMA tyres performed at a level which placed him in overall second place following the first day of racing.  His speed and mastery at the wheel meant he was also the fastest overall on two stages, including the eventual winner and new ERC Champion Jan Kopecky.

It was Aigner’s determination combined with the superb tune-up of the car and choice of tyres that saw the Austrian in front of most of the other S2000 cars throughout the duration of the exciting Croatian rally and an eventual 2nd place overall.

Aigner, ably assisted by Co-Driver Barbara Watzl, was further rewarded in the end, by being awarded the prestigious Colin McRae flat out trophy, which was for him the “cherry on the cake” of a magnificent Croatian Rally.  The Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy is presented on all rounds of the European championship to the driver whose performance best embodies the spirit of the rallying legend.

The next and final race of the season will see teams travel to Sanremo in Italy for a real classic which could additionally mean the title for Aigner in the Production Car cup if he manages to secure some points.  At the moment Aigner leads with a 21 point advantage over his immediate rival the Czech Jaroslav Orzak.
