McLaren Autosport BRDC Award nominees experience YOKOHAMA
03 Dec 2015

The six drivers nominated in the 2015 McLaren Autosport BRDC Award got to sample YOKOHAMA tyres in October, as part of the judging process. All six drove the Williams JPH1B Formula 2 car, which was fitted with YOKOHAMA control tyres when the series was run by MSV Racing and again, around a cold but dry Silverstone circuit.

This year’s nominees – Jack Aitken, Ben Barnicoat, Ricky Collard, Jake Hughes, Will Palmer and Toby Sowery - all drove the YOKOHAMA slick-shod F2 car, as well as a Mercedes C-Class DTM car and a McLaren MP4-12C GT3 racer.

Hughes and Palmer are no strangers to YOKOHAMA, having both competed successfully on the Japanese brand in the inaugural year of the BRDC F4 championship. In addition, Palmer won last year’s Winter Championship on YOKOHAMA tyres while the 2014 Award winner, George Russell, is another driver familiar with the brand, having won the 2014 BRDA F4 series on YOKOHAMAs.

The winner of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award receives £100,000 in cash, BRDC membership, a carbon Arai helmet and a test in a McLaren Formula One car.

The winners will be announced at the prestigious annual Autosport Awards evening this weekend.
