McLaren Autosport BRDC Award
08 Dec 2014

This year's prestigious McLaren Autosport BRDC Award has been won by George Russell, who won the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship on YOKOHAMA control tyres.

From leading the 2014 F4 series for the first half of the season, the title went down to the wire on the very last of the 24 races. Russell maintained a calm and mature approach to clinch the title and at the Autosport Awards dinner in London, was presented with the award. At 16 years of age, he also becomes the youngest driver ever to have their name on the trophy.

Russell was one of three BRDC F4 drivers to be nominated and speaking after receiving the trophy, said; "I'm lost for words; it has been a long wait since the two-day test. A number of amazing drivers have won this award in the past and gone on to do fantastic things so I hope I can do the same as them."

Commenting, Head of Motorsport at Yokohama HPT Ltd, Mark Evans, said; "On behalf of all at YOKOHAMA, I would like to offer my congratulations to George, for the second time after winning the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship. To win on the track is one thing but to be recognised by a selection of your peers as worthy of this prestigious award is another and he is a very deserving winner."

Russell's prize package includes £100,000 and a McLaren Formula One test.
