Veteran Franz Engstler wins YOKOHAMA Trophy

The past weekend at Shanghai International Circuit also crowned German veteran driver Franz Engstler as the Champion of the WTCC YOKOHAMA Trophy following his two wins in the TC2T Class.

Engstler has absolutely dominated the class reserved for the previous generation of 1.6-litre turbocharged WTCC cars and managed an impressive string of class victories in 17 out of the 19 races held so far.

On his BMW 320 TC which is run by the Liqui Moly Team Engstler was full of praise for his team and BMW Motorsport after the perfect season, which although still has two more races coming up - Suzuka and Macau - meant he could already celebrate the title of YOKOHAMA Trophy winner.

“What a great season,” he added. “My team did a fantastic job and prepared the perfect car.”

Franz Engstler is one of the FIA WTCC veteran drivers with 160 race starts as well as a number of victories in his class and an overall win at Oschersleben in 2011.
