Dusan Borkovic, the Serbian driver who is currently leading the Single Make Trophy in the Championship, was all smiles after the weekend in the Czech Republic, taking a win and a runner up place in Brno, at the fourth race meeting of the FIA European Touring Car Cup.

His lead for the NIS Petrol Racing has now been extended to a comfortable margin of 22 points over home favourite and now second overall Mato Homola. Petr Fulin, his other big Czech rival, had a costly weekend and only managed to take 6 points to distance himself a little from the Championship fight.

“I am very happy after these races. I didn’t expect it to be this good and although I was in front of Fulin in the table and due to the trouble he had I increased my lead even further” said an ecstatic Borkovic shortly after the race.

Meanwhile, Michal Matejovsky, the other Czech driver who enjoyed huge fan support in Brno, delivered a class victory in TC2 and also helped the excitement in race 1 claiming a seventh position overall.

For his part German driver Andreas Pfister had a meritorious race two, starting last on the grid and finally making it to 3rd on the podium.

David Oliva, Communications Manager for YOKOHAMA Europe, regional headquarters for the Japanese Tyre manufacturer and exclusive suppliers of the Championship, expressed delight at the high quality of racing seen at the Czech track.  “Those were really fantastic races which had all the ingredients of top level Motorsports with extreme high performance, superior control and excellent handling like our tyres. We are certainly looking forward to the next two racing events in Belgium and Italy, which will deliver the new Champion and it is still wide open” he concluded.

The Top 4 in the overall classification are:

1.   Dušan Borkovic            76 pts

2.   Mato Homola               54 pts

3.   Petr Fulín                      51 pts

4.   Andreas Pfister             46 pts

The FIA ETCC returns at Zolder in Belgium in two weeks time, for the penultimate racing weekend of the season.
