WTCC Qatar to determine YOKOHAMA Trophy and Runner Up
25 Nov 2015

The last race of the FIA World Touring Car Championship season takes place this coming Friday in Qatar. The Championship which has the Japanese Tyre manufacturer YOKOHAMA as Official Tyre supplier, will visit Qatar for the first time in its history and it will also be the first night race.

With French Motorsports legends, Sebastien Loeb and Yvan Muller competing against each other to see who claims runner up spot -  the title is already well secure and in the hands of Citroen team mate, the Argentinian “Maestro” José María “Pechito” López who has managed to renew his Championship title (*) on his second full season.

For the French drivers, it will be a mixture of feelings knowing that the highest they can achieve is 2nd place and as successful and very experienced drivers in their own right, Loeb a legendary 9 times World Rally Champion and Muller 4 times WTCC Champion, the head to head encounter will at least please the fans and perhaps provide a spark or two.

Another major highlight of the race will be who is proclaimed the winner in the YOKOHAMA Trophy.

The Hungarian star, Norbert Michelisz is heading the table 7 points ahead of Moroccan driver Mehdi Bennani who has been chasing throughout the season. In third the Briton Tom Chilton also has an outside chance.

The YOKOHAMA Trophy offers significant prize money to non-works team drivers, which were formerly classed as privateers or independent drivers.

David Oliva, Communications Manager for YOKOHAMA Europe, regional headquarters for the Japanese Tyre manufacturer, described satisfaction with the high level competition throughout the season and the fantastic racing witnessed at all venues in the World Touring Car Championship.

“Our tyres have performed extremely well, our Motorsport support teams too and we are grateful to them. We have seen some dramatic racing, full of passion, excitement, incredible team work and huge determination from all drivers. A sheer delight for the fans and a pleasure for all of us involved in it” he concluded.
